Safety First!!!

Not to brag… I just realized this… In almost 30 years of doing what I do… I have never had a workplace accident where my crew, event attendee’s, or myself have been injured to the point of needing to see a doctor…

Knock on wood…

As a company, XPROi & crew takes it’s time to insure that everyone’s safety is taken into consideration during show set-ups and show tear-downs…  There has not been a serious accident in the first almost 30 years…  No need to start now…

Not that I ever hope to use it, production insurance is in place…

XPROi A/V then placed six of our Chauvet SLIMpar 64 LED fixtures left & right, further washing the stage…  As you can see from the pictures below, this was a VERY well lit stage…

If you need stage lighting for your next event, give us a call…  We can save you a ton of money, while doing a job which meets or exceeds industry standards!!!

During Build

The only catch on this event, was the budget for event production was small…  As a company, XPROi A/V thrives on providing this level of production while staying within the event budget…

XPROi A/V provided our 6500 ANSI Sanyo projectors, 10.5 x 14′ screens, IMAG camera work, stage wash lighting, backdrop support, and DMX network, and 14,400 watt large format sound system for this event…  XPROi A/V also provided technical staffing as needed for this event…

Final

The Pasco School District augmented XPROi A/V’s robust selection of equipment by using their follow spot, LED fixtures, moving head fixtures, wireless mics, and backdrop…  This was done to assist in meeting the budget…

DJSnell Entertainment was on site providing motivational music and pumping up the 1,100 attendees at every conference break…

WASC 2012 was all about teamwork by the production crew, and the companies and the school district coming together to build a winning experience for everyone involved and most importantly the attendee’s…

Thank you to DJSnell Entertainment, Pasco School District, and WASC…  This was an amazing event, XPROi A/V appreciates the opportunity!!!

When the Tri-Cities Cancer Center needed audio support for their open house, they contacted XPROi A/V to help them…  XPROi A/V provided a sound system & microphones for the event…

The turnout for this event was robust…  Having the sound system there allowed for the presenters to be heard and a better overall guest experience…

Thanks to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center for having us do this event!!!

Healed With A Kiss Auction 9-8-2012

The Healed With A Kiss Auction was such a unique and wonderful event!!!  The ladies from Healed With A Kiss wanted to take their event to the next level…  They contacted XPROi A/V, and we were able to take them above and beyond…

XPROi A/V staff went to almost all of the pre-event planning meetings, to assure that the vision of the planning committee was met from all technical aspects…

The event was held on September 8th outdoors at the Goose Ridge Winery, just south of West Richland, Washington…  A beautiful location, but as with every outdoor location, there are always challenges…

There was the need for several zones of audio over a fairly large space…  XPROi A/V utilized wireless audio transmission to bridge that gap…  Electricity was at a premium, so XPROi A/V brought in generators for the “main stage,” and utilized their 1/4 mile inventory of heavy duty electrical to power equipment throughout the rest of the venue…

Outdoor projection tunnel, Tri-Cities,

The toughest challenge arose from the need to provide power point support for the auction, and to show a cancer survivor video…  This was done at twilight, while the sun was still out…  Less than optimal for video projection…

To meet the needs of the event, we built a tunnel to cover against the light, then double stacked our 6500 ANSI lumen Sanyo projectors, effectively making one 13,000 ANSI lumen projector…

At the end of the day, a very successful event for our clients, and a successful technical day for XPROi A/V!!!

Thank You Healed With A Kiss!!!  Ladies, it was an honor…  You are FABULOUS!!!  We look forward to next year…

Projector Matching… What The What???

Projector matching, (in case you are wondering) is important to you…  Similar to the freshman algebra you never thought you would use, with your presentations, projector matching is something you will use every time…

Simply put, if you are using more than one projector for your presentation, you want to make sure that the same make and model are being used on all of the screens at your presentation…  At XPROi A/V, we take it one step further…  We match projection lenses, and bulb life…

There are important reasons for projection matching!!!

The first, is to ensure a uniform look throughout your presentation…  It does you no good, to invest the time and effort into putting on a great event only to have one of your screens significantly dimmer than the other…

The next, is to cut your show labor expense…  If the technicians are using matched equipmant, the amount of set-up time should be decreased…  Time is money, or so they say…

The final reason for projection matching to be discussed here is, that your facilities people will love you for it…  Throw distances (and the show overall) will be symetrical…  As the facilities people are setting up the space for your event, they can set up evenly…

If you would like more infromation about projector matching, please call XPROi A/V at 509-628-5288…  If you like this blog, please like our facebook page!!!

Overhead Lighting, Friend Or Foe?

A recent discussion gave me the opportunity to think about this in-depth.  How many times have you been to a breakfast function or luncheon where the screen was blown out by the overhead lighting?  I know I just raised my hand…

Below are some thoughts on how to plan ahead for your next big meeting!

Indoors:

In putting together meetings and events, the planners I work with are always torn between having the room bright enough to take notes, (20 – 50 footcandles in conference rooms and 10 – 30 footcandles in exposition halls) and dark enough to see the projector (30% of the ambient light* or 6 – 15 footcandles in conference rooms and 3 – 10 foot candles in expo halls.)

Ultimately, it comes down to which is more important.  In some cases, it may possible to dim the room lights during the video presentation portion of the event.  In some cases, a bigger, brighter projector will overcome the room’s overhead lighting.

It is always recommended to place the screen away from any direct overhead lighting.

*Based on a 6,500 ansi projector @ 25′

Outdoors:

This is where things may get a bit sticky.  There is usually only one light source, and there is not a very handy method to dim it.  The outdoor projectionist’s motto is “dawn, dusk, or dark! ”  There are a few ways to minimize the impact the sun will have on your presentation.

Plan on doing rear projection, with the screen pointed AWAY from the sunrise or sunset.  I have in the past, built an enclosure covering the “projection pathway.”  (Some sort of tent/pipe and drape/tarp or black plastic/dark, dark, dark, enclosure.)  To allow my client’s presentation to shine.

The last step, is to make sure the projection unit(s) are bright enough to handle the job.  Ultimately a minimum of a 10,000 ansi projector, or two smaller identical units stacked & aligned is my recommendation.

 Alignment Image

At this point, I’d have to say “overhead lighting is the foe of a nice bright presentation.”  If some forethought is givin in the planning process, the impact on the presentation should be minimal.

I hope you found this helpful in your event planning process.  If you did, please like my Facebook!

A Blast From The Past Part 2

In the mid 90’s, my team and I ran Video Walls in the Pacific Northwest, Up & Down I-5, (from Vancouver BC to the San Francisco Bay area,) & Las Vegas…

This was done in the days before cell phone cameras, or inexpensive small compact cameras…  Event photography often, was a mere afterthought…  Usually a disposable film camera picked up along the way…

Below are a few pictures that were taken back in the day…  These pictures are from a trip to Comdex in Las Vegas, and are from a Hyundai Computer display & a Software Support display we were contracted to provide video support for…
